Hakim-hakim 9:48-49

9:48 He and all his men ¹  went up on Mount Zalmon. He ²  took an ax ³  in his hand and cut off a tree branch. He put it ⁴  on his shoulder and said to his men, “Quickly, do what you have just seen me do!” ⁵  9:49 So each of his men also cut off a branch and followed Abimelech. They put the branches ⁶  against the stronghold and set fire to it. ⁷  All the people ⁸  of the Tower of Shechem died – about a thousand men and women.

God is at work to reestablish David’s line (Acts 2:30-36; 13:32-39).

[15:16]  ¹⁸ tn BDAG 86 s.v. ἀνορθόω places this verb under the meaning “to build someth. up again after it has fallen, rebuild, restore,” but since ἀνοικοδομέω (anoikodomew, “rebuild”) has occurred twice in this verse already, “restore” is used here.
